New Google Update (Caffeine)
This article will explain the 6 Areas of
Internet Marketing as we see them. Then we will explain how the new Google
update has affected our strategies and what you need to do to keep or attain the
ranking that you want.
1) Search Engine (or web site) Optimization (SEO).
This is made up of several areas:
a) choosing your keywords – finding most searched but least used
b) keyword placement on your page
c) the problem with most templates
d) Should you use text or images?
e) The color text you use affects your ranking
e) To use Flash or not to use Flash?
f) Remembering where you do business
g) Every page should be a “Home” page
h) Link creation/formatting
i) Create a page for every service or product that you offer
j) Sitemaps (on and to your other pages and an XML sitemap for Google)

However, this article is to tell you about recent Google updates. In mid-June
of 2010, Google applied their new Caffeine algorithm. It kicked us in the butt,
as our main strategy before this was to use multiple pages and multiple domains
pointing back to the same web site. It doesn’t work by itself anymore!!!!
Now,
Google has placed more weight on - well, take a guess first – think about it.
The
answer:
ACTIVITY.
OK,
activity has many avenues and areas, so which is it?
All of
them.
That’s right – your activity on making page changes (changes to your
web site) and the activity you receive from visitors to your site.
It really couldn’t be more clear – you have to work harder now for your
rankings. It will cost you more time, more research and more resources. I
can't imagine what will happen if the proposed Google/Verizon partnership goes
through.
This
almost ensures you have to use Google Adwords to get ranked highly and
competitively. As most internet marketing gurus (self-proclaimed), I have a
love-hate relationship with Google. They allow me to make money, but they keep
making it harder and harder. However, they are allowing me, with all the
research we do, to get ahead of a lot of “basement” internet marketers who just
fly by the seat of their pants.
The bare
facts are that you need a good internet marketing firm to help you make the most
of your business – even more than you did before. Our basic question we ask
you, the prospective client, is “Do you have time to do all this research, apply
it AND run your business, too?”. If it’s yes, good for you! If it’s no, let’s
start a conversation. They’ll be no pressure from us, in fact, we are always
glad to education you and let you do the parts of Internet Marketing that you
can do for yourself.
